Ingredients

2 (750 ml) bottles of Dry red wine (Bordeaux/Calvet) or Zinfandel

3 cups apple Cider

1 orange zest and Juiced

1/2 cup golden raisins

8 dried figs

12 cardamon pods

12 cloves

4 cinnamon sticks

4 star anise

3 allspice pods (optional if you have it)

1/2 cup of Honey (sugar if you don’t have it)

1/4 cup of Brandy

1/2 cup of vodka (optional for additional kick)

Preparation

Toast all the spices in a small pan

Combine the wine, fruit, and spices in a pot; bring to a simmer and steep for 45 min or longer, stirring occasionally.

Add Brandy and honey (or sugar) stirring until fully dissolved. Strain for serving or keep in a warmer for further steeping, till serving.

To serve, place a small handful of raisins in each glass, pour glögg over the raisins and serve with blanched almonds or pepparkakor (ginger snaps) on the side.
