Ingredients

1 pound ground beef (or sausage/bison combo)

1 cup rolled oats, uncooked (not instant, not steel-cut)

1 medium onion, finely chopped

1 egg, beaten

1 ½ tsp salt

½ tsp pepper

1 8-oz can tomato sauce (this about 7 liquid ounces)

½ cup water

2 tbsp brown sugar

2 tbsp prepared mustard

2 tbsp vinegar

Preparation

Combine beef, oats, onion, egg, salt, pepper and ½ cup tomato sauce; mix well

Pack into a lightly greased 9x5x3 in. loaf pan

Bake loaf at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.

Combine remaining ½ cup tomato sauce (this will be closer to 3 ounces, rather than 4) with remaining ingredients; stir well

Pour over meat loaf, cover with aluminum foil and bake 45 minutes longer. Baste a couple times during baking.
