Ingredients

2 cups flour

2 1/2 tsp ground ginger

2 teaspoons baking soda

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1 tsp ground cloves

3/4 tsp salt

3/4 c crystalized ginger

1 c dark brown sugar

1/2 veg shortening softened

1/4 c unsalted butter

i large egg

1/4 c mild flabored molasses

granulated sugar

Preparation

Combine flour, gr ginger, soda, cinnamon, cloves and salt. Mix in crystallized ginger. In a large bowl, beat brown sugar, shortening and butter until fluffy. Blend in egg and molasses. Add flour mixture and mix until blended. Cover refrigerate 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 350. Butter 2 baking sheets, make balls and coat in sugar. Cook 12 minutes.
