Ingredients

2 pounds boiling potatoes, peeled (about 5 to 6 cups)

2 C milk

1 1/2 C heavy cream

1 large garlic clove, peeled, crushed and minced

1/2 tsp ground white pepper

1 Tbsp Butter

1/2 C grated Swiss cheese

Preparation

Wash potatoes well and dry them thoroughly. Slice 1/8 inch thick into a large saucepan. Add the milk, cream, garlic and pepper and bring liquid to a boil over moderate heat. Pour potato mixture into a well-buttered grating dish or a shallow baking dish. Sprinkle grated cheese over the mixture and bake on a baking sheet in a preheated 400 degree oven for about 1 hour. The potatoes are done when they are nicely browned and the tip of a knife pierces a potato easily. Let dish stand for 15-20 minutes before serving.
