Ingredients

2.5 cups flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

3 tablespoons sugar

3 tablespoons butter (chopped until it looks like bread crumbs)

1 cup golden raisins or currants

1 cup buttermilk

Preparation

  1. Grease cookie sheet and preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Toss ingredients in list down to butter.
  3. Add remaining ingredients.
  4. Knead on floured board until soft.
  5. Form dough into round ball, then flatten somewhat. Cut cross “X” into dough, so dough will easily break into 1/4s after cooking and cook evenly.
  6. Spread small amount of butter on top (optional.)
  7. Cook for 35-45 min, or until skewer inserted comes out without batter. Dough may still seem “springy” or “spongy”.
  8. Remove from oven and cool.
