Ingredients
2.5 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons butter (chopped until it looks like bread crumbs)
1 cup golden raisins or currants
1 cup buttermilk
Preparation
- Grease cookie sheet and preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Toss ingredients in list down to butter.
- Add remaining ingredients.
- Knead on floured board until soft.
- Form dough into round ball, then flatten somewhat. Cut cross “X” into dough, so dough will easily break into 1/4s after cooking and cook evenly.
- Spread small amount of butter on top (optional.)
- Cook for 35-45 min, or until skewer inserted comes out without batter. Dough may still seem “springy” or “spongy”.
- Remove from oven and cool.
