Ingredients

2 lamb shanks

2 tbsp. butter or oil

1 medium onion, chopped

1 tbsp. minced garlic

1 can diced tomatoes, with juice

1/2 cup dry, white wine

1 stick cinnamon

1 tsp. ground cinnamon

4 whole cloves

4 whole allspice

1/2 tsp. ground allspice

2 tbsp flour

1 tsp. oregano

1 tsp. thyme

1 cup chicken broth

salt and pepper to taste

1 lb. fresh green beans, trimmed

Preparation

Roll shanks in flour. In large pot, brown in oil. Add onion and garlic, stirring, for 2 minutes. Add tomatoes, wine, chicken broth and seasonings, mixing well. Simmer on low for 1 1/2 hours, adding more wine and/or broth if needed. Add the green beans after lamb has cooked for 1/2 hour. Serve with rice and sauce after removing cardamon, cloves and cinnamon.
