Ingredients
Bread
2 2/3 cup sugar
2/3 cup shortening
1 16 oz. can pumpkin
2/3 cup water
4 eggs
3 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 ½ tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground cloves
½ tsp baking powder
2/3 cups chopped nuts (optional)
Topping
½ cup flour
½ cup brown sugar
½ cup butter (fairly firm)
½ tsp cinnamon
Preparation
Heat oven to 350. Grease bottoms only of 2 loaf pans. Mix sugar and shortening in a medium/large bowl.
Stir in pumpkin, water and eggs. Mix in flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves, baking powder. Stir in nuts if used.
Pour into pans.
Mix flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon for topping in small bowl. Cut in butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over loaves
Bake until toothpick in center comes out clean- 60-70 minutes. Cool 5 minutes before removing from pans.
Cool completely before slicing (I can never wait that long J)
