Ingredients

2 c. flour

4 t. baking powder

2 t. sugar

1/2 t. salt

1/2 t. cream of tartar

1/2 c. shortening

2/3 c. milk

Preparation

  1. Sift together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and cream of tartar
  2. Cut in shortening (with a pastry cutter or two knives)
  3. Add milk all at once. Stir until ingredients come together
  4. Knead 5 times til smooth.
  5. Pat into a 1/2 in. thick circle. Cut out desired size biscuits with cookie/biscuit cutter.
  6. Bake at 450 for 10-12 minutes on an ungreased cookie sheet, until lightly browned.
  • For variations add: 1/2 c. cheddar cheese and/or 1 t. powdered garlic
