Ingredients
1 lb (500 g) ground (minced) beef
1 onion, finely chopped
1/2 green bell pepper (capsicum), finely chopped
2 large mushrooms, finely chopped
1 can (8 oz/250 g) tomato sauce (pureed tomatoes)
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon tomato paste
salt and freshly ground pepper
Preparation
Heat a heavy skillet over high heat for about 30 seconds and add the ground beef. Break up the lumps, then add the onion. Cook, stirring frequently, until the meat begins to sizzle. Stir in the bell pepper, mushrooms, tomato sauce, mustard, Worcestershire sauce and tomato paste. Mix well. Heat to boiling; reduce the heat until the mixture just barely bubbles. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 1 hour. Add salt and pepper to taste before serving.
