Ingredients
3 cups TVP (texturized vegetable protein)
5 and 1/2 cups water
vegetable oil or coconut oil (to taste)
one large onion chopped finely
one green pepper cored/chopped finely
minced garlic to taste
two cans sloppy joe sauce
Tbsp or so brown sugar or molasses (optional)
Preparation
Mix TVP and water and allow to soak while continuing recipe. Saute onions and peppers in oil until they begin to soften. I recommend using a fair amount of oil as TVP has no fat, at least several tablespoons. Just use a healthy oil like olive or coconut and you won’t have to feel bad about it, and this is a large recipe that makes a double batch. Add garlic to taste and allow the sharp flavor to cook off for a minute. Add TVP that has been soaking and mix well, cooking until heated through. Add both cans of sloppy joe sauce and half a can of water. Add brown sugar or molasses, and any other seasonings you think you would like and simmer until sauce has reduced. Serve on buns or lettuce or how ever you prefer.
